week 6  Finally Done ! This last week all I had to do was learn the 5 phrases. These came easy enough just like last weeks. I actually had a lot of time after I reviewed the 5 phrases so I started to review my other sets that I had difficulty with. I only spent a short amount of time on these before moving on to my final project. For my ted talk I did decide to use a conversation to demonstrate how I had progressed. I will pick a person from the class to read one half of the conversation and I will read the other. This will show viewers what a beginner sounds like versus someone who has some experience in the language of Afrikaans.

Week 5
This week I learned 5 greetings. It went very quick because I already knew all of the words that made up the greetings. I just put them together and worked on my pronunciations. I assume that next week will be just as easy.

Week 4 Like last week I only had to learn 5 common phrases in Afrikaans. This came fairly easy as I knew most of the words. Since it really didn't take that long to memorize the sayings, I took some extra time to look up different pronunciations. I realized in future weeks that I need to watch more videos instead of trying to learn new words by myself. This is because I lost the accent and pronunciation that comes with the Afrikaans language. Some of the problems I ran into were things like G's and H's that are usually pronounced hard in the English language but are pronounced softer and more in your throat in Afrikaans. I will make sure to watch my pronunciation in weeks to come.

Week 3
This week I was finally done with the 25 word limit I had set for my first two genius hours. While I feel a great deal of relief from being done with the most challenging weeks, I also feel That I was unable to learn the words as thoroughly as I had hoped. Because of this I will practice the 50 words I had studied if I have time at the end of my other hours. For this past week I just had to study 5 phrases, this was fairly easy because I already knew most of the words. All I had to do was put the words together and work on my fluency. At the end of the period I had time to go over some of the 50  words so I did that for 5-10 minutes as well.

Just like the first week of my genius hour this week was also a hard goal to reach. I was doing another set of 25 words, which as I have said before is very hard to complete in an hour. I am relived that these to weeks are over because I believe them to be the most difficult. As we gain on our six weeks of the genius hours i'm starting to come up with ideas for my final presentation. I had an idea that I might wright out a simple conversation between two people in Afrikaans. I would take a volunteer from the class to read half of the conversation so that the class could hear my progress compared to someone who had never spoke this language. I might also have the person try and translate what we had spoke about.

For my first week of learning Afrikaans i had set out a goal of 25 words. I found this to be a slightly higher goal than I should have gone for because it took longer than our genius hour period. While inconvenient I will stay with my 25 words for next week as well. While this week didn't go as planned I believe once I move past my 25 word weeks my goals will be perfectly achievable.
